Shockwaves

New Do Day

One day a year people are invited to do amazing or crazy things with their hair. They upload the pictures or videos to Instagram and raise money for charity in the process! Why not push the boundaries of your look, and all for a good cause?

I really like this idea because of the fact that it raises money for charity as well as advertising the Shockwaves brand and the work that Shockwaves have done to support charity. And, the fact you get to play with your hair is obviously a bonus as well!

I think I'd be a bit more inclined to use a brand that has a positive image too wouldn't you? It'd look really good for shockwaves but also such a laugh!

I think it would be a great way to get a lot more people involved than those who like to play with their hair as well though with the charity part added in. I'd love to take part for sure!

I agree that it would look good for shockwaves and while I realise that some people will choose a brand with a positive image over another one and also maybe take into consideration ethical angles, there are also other people who tend to shop somewhere because of the products or services it offers and also based on price and/or quality.

I think it would be good if money could be raised for charities but I don't think there would be much scope to take advantage of this good deed further for shockwaves in terms of trying to promote themselves as being an ethical company because if they start to wield a sword like this, it could easily backfire on them when people start to scrutinise them more.

This would be a lot of fun and there's an even greater reason to take part with a charity being involved in the process.

Nominate November the 3rd as New Do day - it's the saints day for the patron saint of hairdressers (amongst other things) Saint Martin des Porres, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_de_Porres, bit of a boring time of year but you'd have your new do in time for the fireworks party night. any other suggestions?
Also any suggestions about charity? There are alopecia charitites, if it should be hair related?

I like that you've incorporated a specific date that is relevant to the idea. I think alopecia charities would really benefit from something like this as you don't often hear about them/ they aren't covered by the media as greatly as other charities. I think it'd be a really fun way to get involved and raise money for a great cause! I'd also really enjoy having a look at everyone's wacky looks. I'm partial to backcombing myself, so I think I'd see how 'tall' or big I could get my hair!
Maybe they could support a charity that specifies in providing wigs for cancer patients that have gone through chemo and losing their hair? I know from personal experience it can be damaging to confidence and really effect the way a person sees themselves and others do. A wig can really bring back that confidence for people, I know my mama had a lot of fun getting a purple one! (which she currently sports ;P)

Hi Jenn - yes, I just noticed your comment on the original idea - I think you're right this could be the right charity, I like it.

Actually - this clashes with Mo-vember - I've had another thought which is should be right at the beginning of the year - January the 4th for example - January is SOOOO depressing after the xmas season, and NOTHING seems to happen then, it's a wasted week normally - would it be cool to go back to work or school with a new do...?? Whadayathink?

hair related charities would make sense and come across to customers more and though shockwaves had thought the issue through and not just picked something out of thin air, which itself may give it credibility.

I agree with everyones ideas about this one! Anything towards a good cause is fantastic anyway and it sounds like a lot of fun. Why only one day a year? If it's a charity fundraising event why not make it bi-monthly? Even more chances to play with style ideas, more chances to raise money etc :)

This idea makes me miss my old job as a fundraiser! I used to love hearing people's stories of how charities have helped change their lives and the cool ideas on how they fundraise and activities they take part in! I know a lot of the people I met felt they already donated a lot which is why the once a year might be a good thing. But maybe every couple of months could be good too- especially if they changed the charity, mix it up a bit and spread the money!

I think it would be a good idea to have more than one per year - say, one in summer and one in winter, for example - because I think the styles people would go for in certain temperatures/weather conditions would be different, so the overall look would be different, and there could be different charities supported at each one. I wouldn't want it to be too regular though as I think this might take the shock factor away as it would become more normal.

Oooh I like that! I know weather conditions are a huge factor to how people dress/do their hair! I'd be intrigued to see how people differ based on this.

I think one day a year is good because every man and his dog are trying to raise money for charity for the other 364 days and if shockwaves did this on a regular basis, I think the impact would be weakened and some people may actually become sick of a profit making company pushing this idea too much.

I really like this idea but it would be cool if it extended to other social networking not just instagram like twitter, that way those of us who don't use instagram could get involved and more people will know about it with hashtags and such! How would you suggest this could raise money though? I can see it raising awareness but I'm unsure about how it could raise money unless you got people to sponsor you to do something crazy with your hair?

I agree that a wide variety of popular social networks could be used.

The easiest way to raise money I think would be for shockwaves to bring out limited editions of their products, so if someone wants to participate, they can buy one of these products and a % would go towards a charity maybe? or even if they just included a code on the packaging which could be uploaded with their picture and shockwaves would donate so much

CatR Jun 26, 2013

Yeah, it would be better if it'd not just one.
Limited edition products might not work unless shockwaves are trialling them at the same time. They might want to just give a % to charity of their sales during that time.
If they did the product idea I then don't see the point in the pictures anymore though like showing off the 'new do' doesn't raise the money it's the product being sold to them aha.

I agree, I don't have instagram but if it was on twitter and could become trending it would be very popular, people would recognise shockwaves and money is going to charity. Maybe shockwaves could donate a certain amount of money for each person who uploads a picture?

I agree that January can be depressing but I think that there are probably more schools and work places which are against amazing or crazy hairstyles than those in favour

I love this purely because the other ideas seem to mainly focus on ongoing events which people can grow bored of and loose the buzz. With the right advertising and promotion having a one day event creates more of an occasion that people want to get involved with and prevents people from getting bored with the idea.

Sounds catchy and I think the idea of encouraging people to be adventurous and try something new for one day in the year would be cool and it doesn't even need to be linked to a charity - it would also be a great chance for shockwaves to drive sales and raise awareness of their products and what they can do.

What a great way to have fun with a funky crazy hair do and raise money for charity in the process. Would love to see what people come up with.

Nice idea especially since it makes awareness of charities and gives people a good opportunity to sport new hairstyles.
