I think that this would be a really good way to engage the audience and make people more interested in the brand as a whole. I also think it would be really fun to participate as well!

I just think this would be so fun to do and I imagine that some of the pictures would be hilarious - especially if the idea was uploaded on a Friday night!!

yeah haha good idea and the day it gets uploaded would be important too because I would think that uploads from mon-fri daytime might be low given that people can be restricted in what style they can use due to work commitments.

I like the game aspect to this idea, the theming would be fun and I'd love to see what other people could create.. maybe gather some of the best photo's to place in an online album according to each theme so that people can relive the best moments of the "competition"!

would you do this every week? or just occasionally for fun? would every month be easier to keep up with - or a randomly timed hit where you only have 24hours to send in the picture of your Cher (for example) do?

Maybe the idea of "12 days of Shockwaves" could come in here and for certain special events such as Christmas time there could be 12 days of 12 hours to upload your attempt at recreating that look? It might get hard to judge in the time, though.

I'd worry that a time period of 24 hours might have a low participation rate as it could be too short notice for people to carry out the requested style. Occasionally, monthly or randomly may not be as effective as weekly as people may forget about it or lose interest whereas weekly they know it will happen for certain, they have something to look forward to and it provides a reliable and consistent experience.

I'd agree here, maybe something like 72 hours to get your entries in so it doesn't go on as long as a week but still isn't too tight on deadlines! Plus I think it would be better if done over the course of the weekend when people have a little more time to themselves!

I think it'd be something I'd definitely look forward to participating in! Maybe like Katie said every month might be easier to keep up with. I'd love to experiment and think 'Shockwaves says punk' should definitely be a category. Huge fan of punk hairstyles! My step-dad has a mohawk, I could copy his style!

I think that this type of competition is more realistic for people to enter weekly in comparison to other ideas such as mullet month. By having a competition that everyone CAN take part in it would make it more fun! The problem with some ideas is that they are quite extreme and many schools and workplaces would not find it acceptable.

They may find it more acceptable if it was done for charity though? As some of the other ideas suggest. I feel that if it was done for charities, schools and employers would be more open to allowing it.

I do see where you are coming from and some schools and employers may be more lenient if it was for charity but because of the frequency of this event, I don't think many schools would allow it and while some employers will, there are others who rely on how their employees look like banks and estate agents which won't allow any leeway because of the impact it might have on their image.

I agree totally in terms of schools and work places and in these instances, a timed launch on a Friday evening as suggested above or for over the weekend might be better and help ensure that as many people as possible can get involved.

I like this idea but as previously mentioned by Jenn and Katie I see it more being a monthly thing if you want to do it on a regular basis. I can't see people doing it every week and I also feel that after a while it might fizzle out a bit. Therefore the idea above of doing it on special events such as twelve days of shockwaves or maybe you could even do it for easter would be a better idea I think, if it's only on for a limited time too people will be more excited about it and getting free product! You could have themes for christmas etc.
But I'd be interested in the different themes, think it'd be fun. You could have the winner displayed on the shockwaves homepage too :)

Yes! Like a hall of fame so we could see all the previous winners too? A hall of hair.. :) haha.
I liked the 12 days of shockwaves idea, thought that was brilliant :) I think there's definitely potential and ways to keep people pumped and interested!

Hahaha I love that 'hall of hair' Love the 12 days of shockwaves hair idea, a different product and a different theme each day would be ace especially if people are sharing and getting feedback about their hair :) There is definitely potential there but after a while it's a possibility that it might fizzle out like maybe a year or so people might get bored and run out of themes, but that isn't a big concern as I don't expect it to be going forever :)

Definitely! Every brand is constantly coming up with new ideas anyway! that's the beauty of it, if it does fizzle out it can easily be replaced with something equally brilliant!

When I first read this, I was in two minds as to whether I liked it. I did dislike the name "shockwave says" because it reminds me of the boring children's game of "simon says" and this link didn't do anything for me. When I read on though, I began to like the idea a bit more.

I have decided to vote this up because the concept of shockwaves announcing a theme and then people submitting their pictures with a chance to win a prize seems fun and as it is only on once per week, this means that there will be plenty of different themes to last for a long time, it isn't too often to get boring or too long between themes to have little impact or lose peoples interest.

I am not too sure what you mean by "quickly" and I think that the timescale for uploading pictures should at least be a few days to help maximise participation.

I like the idea of announcing a theme every week as this keeps things interesting and gives a bit of inspiration. I worry though that you'd quickly run out of themes if you did this every week. Every month or at the least every other week would give more chance to keep things interesting and keep the idea going, It's a lot easier to come up with 12 unique ideas than 52.

However completely contradicting this point, people are less likely to remember to join in with this if it's only once a month as this isnt often enough for something like this to become a habit. Therefore if you were to do this less often Shockwaves would need good promotion to remind people to take part. Putting this on twitter may just be enough as as soon as #Shockwavesays or whatever it was eventually called begins trending twitter users would become interested and remember to participate. This is also a good way to get new people involved as people always want to be involved with the new twitter trend.

If the membership idea was to kick off, maybe the members could be given a 24 hour head start on this? I feel that this would add another bonus to being a member, and would help to keep people interested. There could even be member only Shockwaves Says competitions with exclusive prizes, say, 4 times a year, to help people to stay interested in what was happening in the Shockwaves world.

Ever been super bored while sitting at home with nothing to do? I have, and what do i do? Ridiculously, my hair and make-up. That's right, i spend hours prepping and preening just to sit in the house. Pretty sad, i know. Get one facebook picture out of it. Then off to the bathroom to make yourself fresh again. This idea is great, it tests us all to try new things, and gives us a push to make ourselves feel pretty for a day. And lets face it, everyone loves a prize. Isn't that why we're all here? I reckon most people have been commenting on here, and we'd all tell our friends, maybe we could go out with friends one day a week, and we can all do the theme? It could really bring people together. Well, that alone is a reason why it's a good idea. With the state of the world at the moment, anything that makes life a little more fun and brings people closer together, do it!!!
