Hair with a social benefit.... substance alongside style....

Wella Shockwaves join up with the M&S and Oxfam Schwopping campaign for fashion shows with a twist...

It's a competition where people go for submitting extreme styles (clothes and hair)... on Twitter or Vine with 10 winners winning a makeover in Schwopping clothing and a chance to strut their stuff down a catwalk alongside the celebs that endorse the M&S Schwopping campaign....

In terms of the logistical elements... why not collect clothes at hairdressers, Superdrug or Boots or other retailers... and use the same vans that deliver Wella products to take these away...

I'd suggest unusual catwalks... commuter trains.. station platforms... Heatherwick's new double decker buses... disused underground stations...

Wow, this sounds very unique! Can you tell us a little more about the Schwopping campaign? As I'm not currently aware of it but it does sound interesting and something very suitable for Shockwaves to be a part of.

It was a campaign run by M&S last year.. it worked on the "buy one, give one’ culture by encouraging customers to donate an item of clothing to charity whenever they purchase something new from the store. In return the donated clothes will be resold, reused or recycled by Oxfam, and the money raised went to help people living in poverty.

To be clear, I don't work for M&S... I just liked their idea and think it's good for companies and charities to collaborate in a "real" rather than token way. Figured fashion and hair sit side by side...

Have a look here to find out more.. http://www.marksandspencer.com/Shwop/b/1672188031.

That is a really positive move, I think I do faintly recall something about it now but perhaps not as much marketing as they could have had about it?! I think that collaborating with a charity is rewarding for them (obviously), the brands involved and all of the participants so this is one of my favourite submissions. So the idea is that people submit shocking looks/styles, then winners are chosen to be made over in the clothing that has been donated and showcase the clothes AND the hair (thanks to Shockwaves) in a public, social event? YES! & I would love to see the photo's created from the event if I wasn't in attendance!

That'e exactly the idea... I've also just added the idea that you could use the Wella retailers as collection points for the swapping element... buy a haircut, and swap some old clothes....

I'm on board with this idea and linking it in with Wella retailers makes a lot of sense. Also, aside from everything else here, I'm sure that this could get Shockwaves some good publicity with the media!

This is amazing, I had no idea this happened!! I love your new adaption of it, and I love the idea of using Shockwaves to help charities! The collection points would be a good idea because you wouldn't have to go out of your way to donate so I think people would be more inclined!

V Nice idea Hair today, lots of good elements and the added splash of the fashion show - it all sounds like great fun and a win for all organisations involved.
