Shockwaves

Shockwaves says...

Through the 'shockwaves says' feature people will be able to ask questions and gain expert advice in an 'agony aunt' style page. This could also be expanded into a separate members feed were shorter, quick-fire questions could be asked and other members could respond in an instant messaging style service.

This is in a way completely unrelated to this post, but your title made me think of something! "Shockwaves says" could be turned into an online game! Like "Simon says", Shockwaves could tweet out something like "Shockwaves says mohawk" and then people send in pictures of their attempts (like you said earlier, the good, the bad and the ugly) to make them a bit more fun loving and interesting!

Yes! I knew that there was a good idea in there somewhere... this would be perfect for the "How could Shockwaves use social media to engage you?" challenge. Just a fun way for everyone to get involved and share photo's that are themed!

But I also really like the agony aunt idea! Sorry, didn't say anything about that :') I think instant messaging is good because you would be able to get help whenever - but it would have to have some sort of moderation or you'd end up with people being inappropriate or trying to bully people!

Thanks and true - I figured that this section would still be published on the website (kind of like the activity feed here), so I suppose it could have a "report" option if anyone was unhappy with a post.

good point Becky, any type of public mass messaging platform would require a moderation system to make sure things stay within certain boundaries - the negative media impact which could result from a case of shockwave agony aunt bullying might be very damaging and costly.

Yes definitely, I'm certain that there will be an admin team behind any of these online public services to ensure that bullying or inappropriate behaviour doesn't take place.

Hi, just looked at the 'shop to style' idea, fits in nicely with this one. I was wondering if Shockwaves have an inhouse expert (agony aunt or uncle) already, anyone know - seems like this could help lots of people!

Not that I know of, but there definitely isn't one in this kind of agony aunt format so I think it's a good idea.

I'm pretty sure that they don't currently have one but I think a lot of people would benefit from this and the advice that they could offer. It's a really simple method to get trusted, reliable answers!

Hi, if money isn't an issue, I think this is a very good and beneficial idea but it really does depend on money because to provide a quality service which responds to everyone in a reasonable amount of time will not be the most cost effective endeavour.

I think that the responses should be publicised online if this idea was to go ahead so that people can get advice and information from other people's queries but yes, it may prove to be too costly and/or able to find an easier replacement. I can't recall who it was but someone here suggested a quick quiz style feature/app to get advice, product recommendation etc. which may prove to be the better idea in this instance. :)
