Shockwaves

Shockmail

Shockwaves would use a weekly email to update members on the launch of new products, exclusive offers, tips and advice. If something captures your attention, the link will lead you to the bigger story!

I tend to get easily irritated by emails, I like the idea of inputting promotions and things though! I'm just trying to think of something you could put in it to make people look forward to receiving the email rather than just "oh, another Shockwave email again" maybe like your other idea - there could be the hall of shame photo of the week in there or something?

Yeah, I was thinking that emails in the form of newsletters from brands can become a little tedious too. The emails that I usually click on from brands are the ones with punchy subjects or promotional offers. It could include the hall of shame photo (who would want to miss this?) and perhaps some shockstar point rankings, I'm sure there could be enough interesting features eventually to make this an email worth clicking.

It would definitely be an idea to try and develop! I know that for me a lot of the time I'll just automatically delete emails from certain brands because I know what the content will be before I open it, so a way to defeat predictability would be something to look into. The kind of emails I look through are the ones like studentbeans, don't know if anyone knows it, because they always have funny articles and there's more picture than text!

Yes! Studentbeans are email alerts that I will always click on, either for the offers that they formulate into a list or the articles because they are always so entertaining! That's where I think features like the hair hall of shame and rate my barnet could be good to incorporate into Shockmail... like you said more images and less text in that format.

The Hair Hall of Shame and Fame Shockmail could go out daily, with votes for the weekly winner? That might keep people more interested, to see what the best and worst hairstyles people have come up with were. I definitely agree with less text, more pictures though.

Your daily hair fail mail?

I would be apprehensive about this because I think it would be too frequent and would lose interest quickly as a result

Hi, from a personal perspective, my inbox is inundated with emails daily and there are in fact several brands emails which I have signed up to receive because I shop with them and have an interest in their products, but the emails I end up having time to look at are few and far between, so I have concerns about this idea thinking that many people would be the same.

I also believe that a weekly email perhaps is too frequent as new products will rarely appear in it, competitions may become costly and the tips may end up becoming too boring and common in the long run.

hmmm. Interesting point. .... and is email the best way to reach out to you guys anyway? or is twitter, tumblr, facebook etc better?

Emails usually a good way to reach me if you aren't a brand or trying to sell products or lure me in with promotions haha - I prioritise the emails I go through, so the chance shockwaves would get a look in would be low.

Facebook might be better so long as I could specify what content I wanted to receive i.e. just promotions or just style tips.

I'm almost always on emails but rarely go on other social media sites, so I'd say email would be the best way to contact me personally. I think that a lot of people spend their time on tumblr, facebook or twitter more often than any other social media sites though, so if it was to be done through social media I'd recommend those.

This was a little more of a standard concept for a brand to adopt so perhaps it could be modernised through other means (although, I do like the hair fail mail...)!

I think a weekly hair update from a brand would be fine, it's when brands send out the same email several days in a row that it gets annoying! I think the once a week would be good, and would capture my attention :)
